Mission:
My mission is to seek out old structures (factories, workshops, train stations, etc.) that have been refunctioned into music performance spaces. I am interested in how the building has been adapted acoustically, aesthetically, etc. to accomodate this purpose. Also, how the existing conditions were beneficial to acoustic performance. I will document the residue these places leave of what they once were. My first destination was Babylon in Istanbul, a former carpentry workshop. Other destinations include Fabrik, a former military factory in Hamburg, and several locations in the Kasimierz district of Krakow, Poland.
While in Istanbul, I have been studying strategies used to control acoustics and a variety of resoration projects, in order to form a broader base for my research.
