My main mission is to investigate the uses of wood as a material in contemporary and vernacular buildings. More focus will be directed towards the structure of contemporary and vernacular buildings as well as, vernacular and contemporary methods of using wood as a structure's envelope. Specifically I would like to develop a new understanding of exterior to interior transitions, connections, and disconnections.
To do this I have studied the seldom wood structures found throughout Istanbul which have resisted and survived the regions many earthquakes in the past century. An understanding of wood as structure and skin was studied in traditional methods of wood constructed boats and traditional Romanian buildings.
